Gesner Oliveira has experience in the private and public sectors and in business and academia. He leads a group of talented economists, lawyers and engineers at GO Associados with focus on infrastructure, competition, foreign trade, and environmental issues.
His previous positions include being CEO of Sabesp - Companhia de Saneamento Básico do Estado de São Paulo (2007-10), one of the largest water companies in the world; visiting scholar at Columbia University (2006); President of CADE, the federal antitrust authority (1996-2000); Deputy Secretary for Economic Policy (1993-95), Secretary for Economic Monitoring (1995).

Mr. Gesner served in many of Brazil's public sector positions, and as President of São Paulo's water utility Sabesp (2007-2010), the largest in Latin America, he led innovative water efficiency projects that improved water services to its 26 million customers.
Gesner is a doctor in economics from University of California , Berkeley , Master in Economics from the Economics Institute ofUnicamp and a BA in Economics from Faculty of Economics and Administration, University of São Paulo . During his graduation, he was president of the Academic Center Visconde of Cairú .
In 1998 he was recognized with the award "Amigo da Infraestrutura" (Infrastructure´s Friend), from Brazilian Association of Infrastructure and Basic Industries (ABDIB - in portuguese).
In 2009 he was recognized with the award "Prêmio Ambiental do Ano" (Environmental Award of the year), from National Think-tank of Business Forum (PNBE - in portuguese).
