Client: National Water Commission (NWC)
Location: Kingston and Saint Andrew, Jamaica
Population: 600,000 residents
Contract: 6 years (2015-2021)
In 2015, MIYA signed a 5+1-year Performance-based Co-management project with Jamaica’s National Water Commission (NWC), to maximize the efficiency of the water distribution system in Kingston and Saint Andrew (KSA).
The Program has been a world-leading mission, characterized by determination, innovation, strategy, strong collaboration and dexterity. Benefits to citizens include: improved service level, improved system pressure, increase in the hours of supply per day (nearly 24 hours), and better drought management capabilities.
Among the major achievements under the initiative is the remarkable reduction in water loss, from over 120,000 m/day to 70,000 m/day over a five-year period, meaning NWC can report as of September 2021 a reduction of over 50,000 m/day.

In percentage terms, at the end of the project, NRW in the KSA system dropped from over 64% to 39%. Over 700,000 Jamaicans have benefitted from these improvements which ensure safe and reliable water supply.
In 2020 the Program won the WEX award for best Innovative Wet Infrastructure Project.
