From the Philippines to Leading Change in Jamaica

Katherine Paleracio, Miya Jamaica's Project Manager

Today we want to share the story behind Katherine Paleracio, our Project Manager at Miya Jamaica, who has built an inspiring career in water management over the last 15 years.

A Civil Engineer by training, she graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines and earned an MBA to expand her expertise. Her international career began with her first overseas project in Tanzania, which proved transformative, exposing her to diverse cultures and technical challenges.

In 2016, she joined Miya Jamaica as an NRW Management Specialist, focusing on reducing water loss in Kingston and St. Andrew. Her expertise and results-oriented approach led to her promotion in 2020 as a Project Manager of Miya’s Portmore project, where she now leads a multidisciplinary team in implementing innovative water management solutions.

Living and working in Jamaica has been both a professional and personal growth experience for her. She values the collaborative environment of her role, which brings together experts from various fields and nationalities, and also finds cultural connections between Jamaica and the Philippines, often saying, “Jamaica made me feel at home, with its warm climate and welcoming people”.

Katherine’s advice to women in water management is clear: embrace resilience, trust in your abilities, and seek out mentorship. Having had the guidance of supportive mentors at Miya, she emphasizes the importance of building networks that inspire and guide you through challenges.
