MIYA Costa Rica completes first 100 kilometres of water network survey for AyA

MIYA Costa Rica has reached an important milestone in its ongoing project with the Instituto Costarricense de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (AyA), completing the survey of the first 100 kilometres of the 1,400-kilometre water distribution network included in the programme.

The field survey provides essential information about the condition and configuration of the network by identifying and assessing key assets such as valves, chambers and other critical infrastructure. This work establishes a reliable foundation for improving asset management and enhancing the overall understanding of how the system operates.

The information collected will support more efficient hydraulic operations, facilitate the identification of visible leaks and operational constraints, and contribute to more effective planning of maintenance and rehabilitation activities.

As part of the project, all survey data is being integrated into AyA’s Geographic Information System (GIS), creating a comprehensive digital representation of the network. This digital asset will enable better planning, faster decision-making and more efficient operation of the water distribution system in the years ahead.

The completion of the first 100 kilometres marks a significant step forward in the programme and reinforces MIYA’s commitment to supporting AyA in improving network performance and reducing Non-Revenue Water (NRW) across Costa Rica.
